Elk Grove Village To Allow Recreational 'Pot' Dispensaries – Journal & Topics Newspapers Online

Elk Grove Village trustees voted 5 to 1 to allow recreational marijuana dispensaries to operate in the village at Tuesday’s (March 23) village board meeting, following a committee of the whole meeting the hour before in which trustees discussed the proposal.

Village trustees had hoped to hear from members of the public, not only at Tuesday’s committee of the whole meeting but at two judiciary planning and zoning (JPZ) committee meetings where the issue of recreational marijuana was also discussed.

Besides a Journal reporter, there was one audience member at Tuesday’s committee meeting who did not wish to speak.

The issue came before the JPZ committee and village board following an advisory referendum of residents in last November’s Presidential Election in which a high turnout of Elk Grove Village voters overwhelmingly voted to support recreational marijuana sales in the village.
